Ex-Etsy Product Manager Launches AI-Powered App to Support New Parents

AI-Powered Parenting App, Riley, Aims to Transform Family Life

A Vision Born from Personal Experience

Amanda DeLuca, a seasoned product manager with experience at major tech firms including Google, NerdWallet, Eventbrite, and Etsy, has launched Riley—a cutting-edge AI-driven parenting management app. Her inspiration for the app stemmed from her own struggles with parental anxiety and insights from other families navigating the challenges of early parenthood.

Three years ago, DeLuca and her husband, both product managers, immersed themselves in research to prepare for the arrival of their child. Despite their extensive knowledge, they found themselves unprepared for the realities of parenting. In search of reliable solutions, they turned to the internet but quickly realized that existing resources were inefficient.

“Parents in the U.S. are having a hard time in terms of using existing solutions to track events for their babies and find answers around parenting. In my experience, these solutions are content-dense and tech-poor. So I thought this is a massively overlooked area,” DeLuca shared in an interview with TechCrunch.

Key Features of Riley

Currently in public beta, Riley offers two primary functions:

  1. Comprehensive Baby Tracking – The app enables parents to monitor essential activities such as sleep schedules, diaper changes, vaccinations, and feeding patterns. Additionally, Riley provides AI-generated insights, such as the best times for naps and potential reasons behind shorter nap durations.
  2. AI-Driven Parental Guidance – Leveraging medical and psychological research, Riley delivers personalized parenting solutions based on user-provided data. The company has assembled a clinical advisory board to ensure its database is robust and science-backed.

“Our differentiation is that we marry different data points that you have provided as parents with science-backed knowledge. We have a very high bar in terms of the quality of data that we ingest in our knowledge base,” DeLuca emphasized.

Personalized Experience for Every Family

To tailor its recommendations, Riley begins with a short onboarding process where parents provide details about their child, parenting style, and co-caregivers. Future updates will enhance this onboarding experience, allowing the app to offer even more personalized insights from the outset. Over time, Riley will also incorporate personality traits emerging in babies to refine its suggestions further.

Subscription Model and Future Plans

Currently, Riley offers a 30-day trial period with three pricing tiers:

  • $14.99 per month (monthly billing)
  • $11.99 per month (quarterly billing)
  • $9.99 per month (annual billing)

The company intends to exit public beta later this year and introduce training guides for parents, including a sleep training module for babies.

Competing in a Growing Market

Riley joins a growing ecosystem of AI-powered applications designed to enhance various aspects of life, from nutrition tracking to family management. It faces competition from apps such as Huckleberry, a sleep-tracking tool, and Maple, a family management platform.

To accelerate growth and expand its user base, Riley successfully secured $3.1 million in seed funding led by True Ventures, with additional support from Flybridge and Next Wave NYC.

A Trusted Source for Parental Advice

Natasha Sharma from True Ventures, who is joining Riley’s board, highlighted the app’s potential to provide much-needed, science-backed guidance to parents.

“In the age of content saturation, parents, in particular, face the challenge of knowing where to ask their most pressing and intimate questions,” Sharma stated. “General searches and forums can result in a maze of conflicting answers. Amanda’s own experience as a parent led her to create a solution that families actually want to use—a platform that delivers science-backed advice tailored to each family’s context, helping families thrive with guidance that evolves as they do.”

The Future of AI in Parenting

As AI continues to revolutionize various industries, Riley stands as a testament to its potential in parenting. By blending personalized data with scientific research, the app aims to be a game-changer for modern families seeking reliable and efficient parenting solutions.
