A Spark That Could Start a Fire
Taipei’s Computex trade show — one of the world’s largest technology exhibitions — kicked off this year with a dramatic announcement from Nvidia. The semiconductor giant pulled the curtain back on a brand-new PC processor called the RTX Spark, branded internally as a “superchip,” alongside a roster of major PC manufacturers already lined up to build devices powered by it.
The chip is built to reach 1 petaflop of computing performance — a figure that, until recently, required data centre hardware. Running AI agents such as OpenClaw or Hermes Agent securely on a personal laptop is now the stated goal. RTX Spark-powered Windows PCs are due to arrive this autumn from ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface, and MSI, with Acer and Gigabyte models to follow.
Built for Agents, Not Just Apps
What separates the RTX Spark from previous high-performance PC chips is its architecture around AI agents. Each device will include secure sandboxes, developed jointly with Microsoft, that allow AI agents to operate without exposing the wider system to risk. The hardware stack — CPU, GPU, RAM, and Nvidia’s CUDA software layer — is also capable of running local large language models entirely on-device, without a cloud connection.
Nvidia says RTX technology will deliver accelerated AI performance, improved visual fidelity, and compatibility with AI-powered features in more than 1,000 games and applications. More than 100 Windows software developers have already committed to supporting the new chip, a list that includes Adobe, Blender, ComfyUI, Riot Games, and Xbox.

The $200 Billion Bet
The RTX Spark reveal did not emerge in isolation. Just weeks earlier, following another record-breaking quarterly earnings report, Huang told investors he had identified a fresh $200 billion market opportunity — not in graphics processors, but in CPUs designed for AI workloads. As a reference point, he noted that Nvidia had already secured approximately $20 billion in sales of Vera, a high-performance server CPU released earlier in 2026.
Speaking during the May earnings call, Huang sketched out a world in which AI agents proliferate across every device. “We’ll have billions of agents, and those billions of agents will all use tools. And those tools are going to be like PCs, just like us humans using PCs today,” he said. “We’re going to need a lot more CPUs.”
A Market With Historical Baggage
Nvidia has tried the Windows PC space before and the results were not encouraging. In 2013, Microsoft was forced to write off $900 million on its Nvidia ARM-based Surface RT tablet, and partners including Dell swiftly abandoned the product line. The episode became a cautionary tale about the difficulty of breaking Intel’s dominance in the Windows PC ecosystem.
But conditions have fundamentally shifted. Qualcomm has already demonstrated that ARM-based Windows machines can attract mainstream buyers, and the RTX Spark is positioned at the performance ceiling rather than the budget tier. Microsoft itself is treating its own RTX Spark device — branded the Surface Laptop Ultra — as the most capable Surface laptop ever produced.
Pricing Remains the Open Question
Despite the headline announcements, PC manufacturers have yet to publish pricing or full specifications for their RTX Spark models. The devices appear to be consumer-grade equivalents of Nvidia’s DGX Spark mini-computer, a developer-focused unit currently on sale for approximately $4,800.
The key competitive question is whether these machines will undercut the Apple Mac Mini, which has become a widely-used platform for running local AI models on a modest budget, or whether they will occupy the premium end of the market — powerful, capable, and priced accordingly.
What This Means for Business
For business leaders and professionals tracking the evolution of AI tools, the RTX Spark launch represents something worth watching closely. The promise of running capable AI agents locally — on hardware you own, without continuous cloud subscription costs or data privacy concerns — addresses real enterprise needs.
